The prized products of educational institutions are its alumni. The leading seat of higher education in the entire North East of India, Gauhati University is no exception. Over the years since its inception as the premier institution in this part of the country in 1948, Gauhati University has proudly conferred its degrees on thousands of young people who have gone on to scale stellar heights in careers of their choice. From doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists, researchers, corporate executives, defense personnel, to self-employed entrepreneurs within the country and abroad, Gauhati University alumni span the entire world. Many have scaled the heights of success and international fame. Many others have quietly succeeded in their endeavors without much publicity. Still others have left their positive mark on future generations and silently transformed social obligations for the betterment of our society, state and country

The University is extremely proud of these achievements of our alumni. They are what make the University great. Through their hard work, patience and diligence they have gone on to achieve personal success and become examples for future generations to emulate. Gauhati University acknowledges with profound humility, great respect and sincere gratitude that these individuals chose to make this institution their choice for higher learning, research and their terminal degrees

It will be only too prudent to bring together those who kept the flag of this institution high, under one roof to have a healthy, meaningful and successful intellectual exchange to help this institution with their tremendous insight, knowledge and skill.

The University has been acknowledging this success through periodic meetings within the campus and has been seeking the sound advice of the alumni to make this institution still better. A sizeable number of Gauhati University alumni have decided to settle abroad after they found success and personal growth in many foreign countries. It is not easy for most of these alumni individuals to come to Guwahati and maintain a close bond with their alma mater. To facilitate a closer interaction and to advise and counsel the University administration on ways to improve, contribute and build a still more vibrant 21st century institution, the University is contemplating to hold an alumni meet in London during February 2016. It will be only too prudent to bring together those who kept the flag of this institution high, under one roof to have a healthy, meaningful and successful intellectual exchange to help this institution with their tremendous insight, knowledge and skill.

I must acknowledge two persons Dr. Jayanta Biswa Sarma and Dr. Nripen Barkataky who have been nominated as coordinators for Europe Chapter of the Alumni association of this University for their initiative and efforts for the proposed meet. I am also delighted to mention that a 14 member strong group of bright and meritorious teachers will accompany the undersigned to London for this meet. I am touched by the passion shown by the coordinators and accompanying teachers for a journey of this institution for excellence. I must introduce you to Professor Jogen Chandra Kalita who has been instrumental in coordinating international chapters from India and is a man to bring us close to the destination of a long planned journey.

Gauhati University solicits your opinion, comments and suggestion on this endeavour.

M. Hazarika, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University.
